Capturing the excitement of Manchester's diverse culinary culture

The challenge

As Manchester’s largest food community hub, EAT MCR needed a brand identity that captured the energy, diversity and creativity of the city’s thriving food scene. The existing brand lacked a distinctive visual language capable of uniting food, drink and cultural content under one recognisable identity, while also supporting growth across digital platforms, social media and editorial content. The challenge was to create a brand that felt approachable and community-driven, while standing out in a crowded landscape of food publications, independent venues and lifestyle platforms.

The approach

The identity was built around connection, discovery and shared experiences. A playful custom wordmark, formed from fluid organic shapes, creates a sense of movement and personality, while a vibrant colour palette captures the excitement of Manchester’s independent food and culture scene.

Key design decisions

To bring the brand to life, we developed clear photography principles centred around curated flatlay compositions and authentic lifestyle imagery. Together, these elements created a flexible visual system capable of scaling across editorial content, social media, events and digital platforms.

The outcome

The result is a bold and recognisable brand that feels energetic, inclusive and unmistakably Manchester. Supported by comprehensive brand guidelines and website design, EAT MCR now has a cohesive visual identity that celebrates its community, strengthens recognition and provides a clear foundation for future growth.
